Childbirth Australia is a not-for-profit organisation focused on improving maternity services through research, knowledge-dissemination and advocacy of woman-centred care.
We believe that when the needs of each woman and her baby as a unit are at the heart of planning and decision making in every maternity service, then each mother and baby can have an optimal birth: safe and emotionally enriching, whether or not complications occur.
We seek to support and represent the rich diversity of families in Australia, and to promote social equity and consumer engagement. As a consumer-focused organisation, we promote critical assessment of current policies and work towards making healthcare services equitable and accountable to their users.
Childbirth Australia is committed to implementation of best-practice healthcare in pregnancy, labour and birth, and the postpartum period. We aim to achieve this by:
- representing the interests of maternity care consumers: women, babies and their families.
- undertaking research and evaluation, developing policy positions and facilitating access to trustworthy and up-to-date information.
- bringing together a network of consumer and professional organisations for information-sharing and consensus building.
We welcome anyone interested in improving maternity care in Australia today, to contact us and find out more about how to get involved.
